I moved the Weds. nite trip to Thurs. this week. Lines off about 6PM- tide was just starting to run, sunny and nice in the marina. I knew from the Driscoll Bridge buffeting I took on the way down that it was not gonna stay that way. The Tombinator was out of sorts, maybe due to Thurs. Vs. Weds., but he got into the swing of things as the trip progressed. More on that later.
Came around the point and was greeted by a blow from WNW about 25. NOAA was calling for it to eventually lay down, so we took a ride to the 10lb grounds to scout out some lumpies we marked last year as potential for the imminent fluke opener.
Did that, then moved to a fishy spot over the line, and attempted to set up. Not happening, the anchor was acting more like a planer board with the wind and current. Forced YSA back to the spot with the throttle then busted out anchor #2 and finally came tight. We both had runoffs almost immediately and figured maybe gonna be a good night. A short while later Tombo's reachin' in the cooler yammering on and on about some medeco lock cylinder with angled pins blahblahblah and his pole is doubled over. Ahem, Tom, you fishing tonight or should I get it?
Seeing that this fish hooked himself, there's not too much ol' Tombination can do wrong, right? Yep, this time, right, he battles in a nice 29" bass which is netted and boxed. We're stoked!
Couple more runoffs, a lot of crackin', a few more medeco rekeys, and he's got another bass at the boat which tapes to just under 28". Back he goes...
Continued to fish, picked up a few more just shorts, nothing too exciting, but at least I have proved to Tom there ARE bass in the spot, and he has confirmed that he is capable of landing them. Was a little iffy on that second one until last night...
We ran out of bait around 11 and called it a good night. Final tally 6 bass, 4 of them still pre-spawn. Kept the one.
