Do any of you seasoned captains use sivlersides//spearing as early season fluke bait. if so is it possible to catch at the docks up in north jersey via drop net or minnow trap.

Thanks for the help  slt

I use spearing but it usually does not show up in any numbers till a little later in the season. You can use an umbrella net at the dock, I have never had luck with a trap. I always throw a cast net on them. A fine mesh net is best so as not to gill most of them and spend the bulk of your time pulling the spearing out of the net. BTW, I'm in Shark River, I don't know the timing of the spearing further north of there.  t^
