Trailer Winch Question... ???
« on: May 22, 2011, 05:13:45 PM »
I don't use my winch to bring in the boat, since I drive the boat right up to the winch.  Is there a particular rating I need from the winch if I am just holding the bow on the trailer?  The winch I have now is rated at 3200 lbs..  but my 27' Grady weights much more then that.  Can I assume that, that would be good enough for what I am using it for?

Honestly not sure,Nick. One thing that would be a positive is safety line from the winch post to the bow . That way your not dependent on the winch to hold when trailering .

another way to go is to run the line back to the winch post with a snatch block, which will reduce the pulled weight in half, basically doubling your winch's capability
