Fuel Phase Separation

Fuel Phase Separation
My buddy called me last night.  He had his boat in for service (2002 Yamaha 150 2 Stroke) and they told him he has fuel phase separation and they need to drain his fuel tank (about 60 gallons of gas) and drain and clean his crabs and fuel lines.  They are asking $1500 to do this.  Does the cost this seems in line?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Wreckfish,
Just spoke with the Yamaha outboard customer service team in Atlanta.  Nothing can be done to make the separated fuel useful. Fuel must be drained and gas tank thoroughly cleaned to remove all contamination off the walls of the tank as well as the engine and carbs. They recommend DRAINING ALL FUEL at the end of the season instead of topping off the tank as well as buying smaller amounts during the season so fresh fuel is continually entered into the system.  You never know how long the fuel has been sitting at the pump station before you purchase it.  Still looking for a better price than original quote.
