The Squan Today
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:10:49 PM »
Got out to the river about 5PM started off Clark's water temp. 64. Made 3 drifts one short. Headed over to the Brielle side the hole near Treasure island Water Temp 73. Picked up 3 fish with one 19" keeper, the wind was too much so I moved over to PP side river beach picked up 2 18" fish and a few shorts. I had one on for about 5 seconds WOW I was close to the canal but pretty sure it was a "BIG FLUKE" It didn't feel like a Blue pretty sure it was a Fluke almost took the rod out of my hands. All the keepers were on squid and spearing, and on the top hook. I fish a Buck-tail with a 4/0 circle hook 1' above. The water was very clear could see the bottom in 8'. Not a bad ratio of 2-1 keepers by the end of next month it probably get back to 20 to 1 like last year.
