Irish Ayes Fluking 6/16/11
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:17:03 PM »
It's hard to believe that 2011 is nearly halfway over and I haven't had an opportunity to get out and fish with my good friend Joe on the Irish Ayes yet.  Well, I remedied that today.  I showed up at the dock at 8:00 this morning to meet up with Joe, Peter, Jeff and Jeff's friend, Josh.  After a quick huddle it was decided we would fish for whatever would bend our poles, and we were off.

Hanging a right out of Shark River, we found some bunker a little ways down the beach.  We snagged some for the livewell, and Joe set us up on a lump to see if we could get something big to eat them.  We put out some swimmers while a few of us starting fluking as well.

While the bunkers went unmolested, the fluking seemed be pretty good.  Jeff had the hot hand early landing a half dozen short flukies in quick succession.  A little while after that, it was clear the striper bite was not on (at least here) and Joe suggested we move north a bit to do some more fluking.

That was the right call for today, as once we got set up in our new location it was almost nonstop action on the flatties!  Many fish were caught.  Fish on two, three and four at a time was common.  Many were just shy of the 18" mark, however we did manage to find about a dozen keepers that made their way to the fillet table.

It was a great day out with Capt. Joe and the boys today!  Awesome weather, a ton of laughs and lots of hungry fish!  Thanks for having me aboard Joe. t^

Nice day on the water...Good peeps on the boat...Good time had by all.  chrz

Here is a strange fluke that Bob caught today.  Take notice there are no eyes. That's because this is the bottom side of the fluke.  cfzd
The top side was perfectly normal.  TT^
