Left port at 6:30 Friday evening hoping to get some late evening fluking in, and also to kind of take my mind off the fact I had to bring my son back to his mother's house after having the whole week vacationing with him.  Took a long trip around the tip and set up in some deep water on the north side of the reef.  Drifted a few shorts, no keeper fluke this time, but did land one really really nice Seas bass that measured out at 19 inches.  Cruised in at darkness only to realize there I was in the middle of Raritan Bay all by myself, surrounded by fireworks in every direction.  Keansburg, Keyport, Perth Amboy, Elizabeth, Staten Island, Brooklyn, all over just fireworks everywhere.  Cut the engine and sat back with a beer and watched them all go off.  Was really quite a sight.

Monday I had plans to go out with my buddy and hopefully put him on some fish.  We motor out to the pandemonium near the tip and both agree that we need to go offshore and get away from the mayhem.  Only problem is we realized we better gas up to do so, so straight to the heart of it we headed in the highlands to fuel up.  What a mess by the highlands inlet.   smk smk

Anyway, finally headed out to a spot I have been having success on offshore and started right away, picking short after short.  Had alot of action, just no meat for the box.  After some good conversation and fun we decided to make a move to another spot in the hopes of finding some meat.  Made a move south and found alot more of the same, along with skates, doggies, and Lionel Ritchie's, but my buddy did catch one 20"er so thankfully he got some meat to take home.  A beautiful day to be on the water even with all the traffic.

Somebody else here posted a much better comparison than that, but I can't find it.
