inshore fishing for novice
« on: August 03, 2011, 03:09:30 PM »
I bought gear and want to learn/start saltwater fishing.  I am looking for a recommended site to go to for casting practice.  I will try the surf after schools are open.  Maybe a pier bulk head area?

Im from Morris County.  Heading to Pt. Pleasant today to check out pier and surf fishing areas.  No boat and no shore house but willing to travel.

What area are you from?
The surf is a great place to practice your casting.  Nothing overhead to get snagged on, and you'll have plenty of room around you so you won't crack someone with a chunk of lead.   t^

Good luck.  Let us know how it goes!

I bought the following gear but can still return it if needed.  This was salesman driven since I didn't know much.
1 9 ft.Tsunami Airwave rod use: 12-25 lb and lure 1-3 1/4 oz
Penn Battle 5000 reel
2 10 ft Tsunami Airwaverod use: 20-40 lb and lure 3-6 oz
Shimano Baitrunner 8000D reel
Think they were good picks or should I switch?

that's an excellent set of gear for you. Covers all your bases from bait to plugging in most conditions. What kind of line is on the reels?

The gear you got is good......there are a few places you can fish around here there are piers in union beach, keyport, keansburg, atl.highlands and highlands they are in monmouth county.

You can also fish the beaches there but sandy hook down to asbury park is better for surf fishing. So i have heard, i dont surf fish any more so im sure some one here could tell you more on that.

there are also party/charter boats that you could try iffin you wanted to.
There are many bait and tackle stores all along highway 35 and highway 36......
well have a safe and pleasent trip, where ever you go!
Why does it Matter to you? cause I could careless.........
