Today I had the Mike P Charter out for a Bluefin trip. Leaving Shark River Inlet around 4 am, we were greeted with a calm but big swells. After a slow ride out to the grounds, we saw plenty of life in pea soup green water. Found some marks and dropped jigs right away. Mike was the first to connect on a tuna. After a quick tug of war we boat a nice 40" fish.. We reset on the drift and first timer Chris gets tight on a Bluefin. Now this was quite a challenge since Chris had just torn his Achillies Heel.. But after a little coaching and finding a comfortable spot to fight the fish. Chris Landed another 40" Bluefin and popped his cherry on the Fins...So agains we made a little look and reset on the drift.. We picked a few bluefish in the mix before Hank hooked up and was in the game.. After a few minutes Hank Boated a 35" Bluefin. Again another Bluefin cherry was Popped!!!
Then it just died. After a few hours of silence and looking around we found them again. This time we had doubles on. Both Mike and Chris came tight on cookie cutter Bluefin. Boated both fish quickly and release another pair of smaller bluefins. Then we had a bait rod go off and the guys were kind enough to let me have it.. After what felt to be a another Bluefish turn out to be another little speedster Bluefin around 27"s. So we rest the drif over and over and slowly picked our way through a pile of mixed sized Bluefin. While making a few moves we had a nice 6ft Hammerhead charge the boat. That was pretty cool to see. We waited and searched around the entire day and in the late afternoon got a shot on a few more tuna before pulling the plug for home.. Going 10 for 10 on Bluefin in the 36" to 41" range with numerous little tuna mixed in!! Big Thanks to Capt Mike P , Hank , Chris And Jim for booking a charter on the Sykk Physh
