Fishguts 8/18 bay/ocean combo
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:47:11 PM »
On 8/18 it was John,Doug and Russel looking to fill a cooler and bring home plenty of fillets. The forcast was not the best and the conditions in the morning sucked with strong SW winds. We planned to just grab 2 dozen keeper seabass and then head into the bay and have a short day. The seas were sporty but the wind did fall out and the seas laid down so the guys opted to stick with the wreckfishing while I kept an eye on the radar for any approaching storms. All storms passed well to our north and by 11am the seas were flat. The 3 anglers did a good job putting a nice box together but LOTs of empty hooks left plenty of fish for next time. Most keepers were in the 14" range with a handful larger and a few right at 12.5" for a real nice average. A stop in the bay produced great action on the light tackle with a number of double header short fluke mixed in with plenty of singles. They did manage to box one 19" fish. It was a tough trip early with very poor conditions but the day turned out very nice and the guys were a real pleasure to spend a day with. Trip totals for 3 anglers was 45 keeper seabass, one 19" fluke, and one squirrel hake and plenty of short fish released for a nice day with large bag of tasty fillets.
