Well, here's the update.  Two blown cylinders.  I've decided to repower to something newer as opposed to just changing out the powerhead.  Right now there's someone in my marina who is apparently looking to repower his twin 2002 Yammy 250's to 4 stroke.  The marina called him and he is potentially in the midst of a deal that would require he trade them in, but if not he will sell to me at a very fair price.  If not then I'm looking at a 96 Ocean Pro 225 for $4500 hung and rigged or a 2007 Suzuki 200 4 stroke for 7 grand hung and rigged.  Not going with the Zuk, mainly because I don't really think it's worth hanging a 4 stroke on an 88 nor do I have that kind of money right now.  If that 2002 Yammy comes through then I'm pulling the trigger.  Otherwise I am keeping my sights open so if you guys know of anything out there, give a yell.

I know a couple people selling outboards ones a yamaha 200...ones an oceanrunner 175 i think  the yamaie is in really good cond. the oceanrunner i know who had it and they used it quite a bit.Let me know if Ur interested ill ck. to make sure they have them still then.

 However id wait to sea whats up with the trades at Ur marina(since u keep the boat there u might be better off) and after you check to make sure its proper for Ur boat.

what make/model boat is it?
 With A 235 hp max, anything between 175 and 235 is plenty. It is rated the same as my Grady thats for sale and the 175 pushes it plenty with power to spare and they are a heavy boat.

Matt.. What is the soul purpose of max HP on a boat?  Is it the weight of the engine for the hull?  If your only a few HP higher then what its rated for, will it matter.  If this boat is rated for a 235hp max, will a 250 really make that much of a difference.

I'm not Matt, but I was always told it was due to motor weight, transom strength,or flotation, depending on the vessel. Then there is the legal issues. Exceed the ratings, something goes wrong, get your ass sued off!    <'((((><

If its weight, isn't there a difference in weight between a 250 hp 2 stroke and 4 stroke.  The new 250's should be lighter then a 235 of an older engine in which the boat is rated for. 

Im sure it has to be more then a weight thing.  My engines are 16 year old 200's.  If I replaced them new today, there should be less weight on my transom.  right? 

Maybe too my speed or torq for the boat?

My 225 four-stroke Yamaha is almost a hundred pounds HEAVIER than the 225 two-stroke Yamaha I had.

Well, status so far is I have a few options right now and whittling them down.  Thanks to Maritime Matt, Still Running, and Offshore Madness for all your offers and help.  I think by the end of the day today I will know wjhat I am going to repower with and hopefully have it back in the water in a couple weeks.  For those interested, old engine had 2 dead cylinders thanks to my blunder.  Lesson learned.
