Mercury Levels in fish ?
« on: August 02, 2007, 09:44:26 PM »
Anyone here know or have a list of fish that have mercury in them, and the ones that dont ? Actually, my grandmother was over before, I made her try a piece of the Fluke I had caught today (cooked it fried, with some tartar sauce) and she loved it. She always loves my fluke when I cook it. But anyway thats besides the point. She asked me which fish have mercury in them ? I only knew of swordfish and shark. Wanted to say Tuna but didnt. I want to give her a complete answer on what does and what doesnt. Anyone know off hand? Thank you Thank you  ;)

Fish On
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Hi Fishon42,

NJ publishes a yearly advisory about fish in our waters. As you know, the same species may have different levels of contaminants in different places, even within the same state. For example, the Newark Bay complex.

It is more than just mercury to think about. It is also PCBs and the like.

The recent is advisory is at:

http://www.state.nj.us/dep/dsr/fishadvisories/statewide.htm

I will look for some data specifically about Mercury for you if you want.
