Had Capt Mike, Bob G and Johnny Oz aboard today. The game plan was to hit the Shark River reef to look for some cod fish. Stopped for fuel and headed out.
Made our first drift over a wreck that Joe T of Tuna Tales provided intel on. Almost immediately had two cod fish hooked and on their way up. Capt Mike stuffed his cod into our cooler and I released a short (only by an inch or so) cod. Made several more drifts and had some hits but no hook ups.
Moved to a rock pile and Johnny Oz boated a keeper cod. Make several moves in the area which proved futile so it was back to the wreck and several more drifts.
Found a sweet spot and started pulling porgies in the 14-15 inch range along with two more keeper cod and several short cod. Also hooked up with over a dozen jumbo sea bass and several keeper fluke which were reluctantly released due to seasonal closures on both species.
Capt Mike tried jigging on some decent marks but was only rewarded with blue fish up to sixteen pounds.
Will be back at it tomorrow.
We also had a hitch hiker aboard today.
