Weather Forecasts
« on: October 25, 2011, 09:09:41 PM »
What weather reporting websites or programs do you like using? I am looking for something in the simple side for inshore (<20NM) forecasts several days in advance of my trips. Any help is appreciated.

I like the Marine Weather Forcast App by Bluefin on my smart phone. It give me the ability to check for up to 5 days in advance,by specific areas, such as inshore, offshore, anywhere in the world. I can check anytime and get fast, accurate, updated forcasts  instantly. Info comes from the National Weather Service, which I use from my PC or Laptop while online. <'((((><

I use wx alert USA on my iphone. It is NOAA forcast. Not 100% by any means, but it will give you a fairly good idea of what is happening/going to happen in the weather world.

I do not, would not, rely on any weather forecast to be any more than 'fairly' accurate. Look at a weather forecast for two days away and then look at it again tonight and it most likely will have changed.

NWS or Accuweather.com .  They are the 2 most reliable sources.  NWS has the best marine forecast.  The forecasts change so often because the most reliable forecasting products(models) only go out 18 hours.  Really, for the best forecasts, you need to find a really good Meteorologist who has a proven track record and knows the local area and who uses the models and his own knowledge.  Unfortunately, I think the only way to get that is to go to a pay site in NJ.  NJ gets lost between Philly and NYC, so we really don't have our own large city with Meteorologists to cover the state accurately!

Good news.  NOAA and the NWS will be getting a new, state of the art satellite, which is being launched tomorrow morning.  This should improve the long range forecasting reliability.

Has anyone used http://www.buoyweather.com? Their free 2-day forecasts seem to be pretty accurate and they seem to have a ton of other information for paying customers.
