Broke the inlet at 630 this morning and the fleet was already gathered and the birds were plentiful and diving just outside the inlet. Resisted the urge to make a break north and went out just beyond the fleet and a little to the south. The birds came our way while were were all alone and the bass were on top of the water with sand eels. My son and I ( who I allowed to play a little hookie today)boxed 3 in the first half hour and the rest of our limit including our bnus fish in the next 30 minutes. The rest of the trip was for the fun of it. Things died down and we headed north toward the bathing beach but half way there I noticed no birds but alot of fish on the screen. We were double hooked up for the next hour, all huge stripers ( not one blue all day). We staretd the day with a large Deadly Dick on each our rods and never lot one or had to change all day. 32 Bass boated today, all but our limit released for another day. Our 2 biggest today were 36 and 34 inches.
My big learning of the day, sometimes it's best to resiss the crowd of boats and gooff looking on your own.
My only challenge today as a new boater is........there were times we were in a large large group of boats jigging, and some guys trolling come right through the middle of all the sitting boats then get an attitude if a cast gets a little too close to them. Like everone should put their poles down as they pass through the middle.
Oh well can't make a friend in everyone!
