Gambler - Point Pleasant 8/15/07
« on: August 15, 2007, 03:38:11 PM »
I went out on the AM trip and things started out slowly (except for the drift).  Had to put away my bucktails in favor of 8 oz. of lead.  We started out fishing about 70' of water around (I think) Brick or Mantoloking. There was a fairly slow bite in the early hours.

We stayed around that general vicinity all day.  We fished a bit shallower towards late afternoon.  The fishing picked up a lot after that.  One drift, almost everyone had a fish on within a three minute span.  If I had my boat I would have doubled back and hit that same little patch right away.  But I guess it's hard for a party boat with 50 or so people on it to make such short drifts.

Anyway, I had about 10 fish (3 keepers to about 18 1/2") including one on a double header.  All of the shorts were 16 1/2 or better.

I believe there were a couple limits.  The pool winner went about 6 1/2 - 7 lbs.  There were a couple 4 pounders taken as well.

All in all, a pretty decent day.

Good report Bob.  Nice catch.
You are right, with your own boat it is nice to have the option of repeated short drifts.  I found fish like that yesterday.  Was able to drift the same location all day.   t^

Nice report Bucktail, When I fished head boats The Gambler was always one of the better boats to fish on. Capt Bogan does an excellent job in the fall for Stipers t^
