Furuno 1623 vs GARMIN GPSMAP 3205C and GMR18 Radar
« on: January 22, 2012, 02:58:38 PM »
I am looking to add a small radar system to my 23' WA. I am limited in space and will only need the radar for occasional night launches and unexpected weather so, I don't need a lot of bells and whistles.

The Furuno 1623 is in the $1,300 range and is monochrome. I have also found someone selling a new Garmin GPSMAP 3205C with GMR18 Radar dome which interfaces with the GPSMAP.

Does anyone have any opinion regarding these two units? Again, I am limited in space and looking to maximize functionality in a tight package. I currently have a Garmin GPSMAP 441s so, I could dedicate that to sounder functionality and use the more robust chartplotter fuctionality of the 3205 and have it for radar too.

Any opinions on pros and cons of either unit would be appreciated.
