who remembers the LB Pier fire of 1987

The 1987 Long Branch Fire and sad end to an era; Max's, the boardwalk and the amusement pier that created so many memories. Do you know it was considered suspicious by many? Gifted Sara ( Long Branch's Madame Marie) was asked a few days later by a reporter if the amusement pier would be rebuilt as the politicians were claiming. Her mouth curled into a sly smile and she said " I see condominiums"

I fished many time (by boat) near that pier. Been a great fluke spot for a long time.

I remember a lot of cold winter nights fishing for on that pier.

I remember fishing for whiting at night in the winter with my Dad.

I still have a ceramic skull I won playing the games.

I remember back in the 60's & 70's fishing on party boats out of Sheephead Bay and catching lots of porgies, sea bass and blackfish in the vicinity of the pier.  Very sad news when it was destroyed.

Growing up in the late 60's/early 70's I fished that pier many nights  with my neighbor and his son. For some reason it was always at night and in the cold and never had any luck

Had the kids there to a water park the week before that fire.
