1st time for this one
« on: December 19, 2011, 06:55:13 PM »
Luna Sea 4 sent his buddy my way for some boat/motor repairs as he purchased the boat in January this year and did not sea-trial it or have it checked out.  That is absolutely a no-no in my book although I'm guilty of it myself.
Any how, one issue is the fresh water washdown was not working right. Pump comes on but nothing really comes out. I've done many of these and have never seen a pump turn on and not pump. 99.9% of the time, the motors corrode up and fail, not the pump part. Upon inspection, I saw the old Wire Nuts used for Romex home wiring making the connections , so I knew someone had their hands on this before. Apparently they really did not know what they were doing as they had the hoses hooked up reversed. So when I turned the pump on,water came out the Water Deck fill on the gunnel. Had me stumped for a few clp

Funny,  I can get all the thhn electrical wire I need but will never use it in my boat.   Doing it right the first time with the proper materials is the way to go, no matter what the expense.

Yeah right!! Good thing the thru-hull is above the waterline, well maybe not.  :headscra:
Well, let's continue. The past few days I've been going over the fuel system. Guess what's next? Yup,
they had the fuel/water separator hoses backwards, meaning the hose going to the motor from the sep was on the intake and the hose from the fuel tank to the sep was on the out port.  :headscra:

Now I don't feel so bad for the repairs that I've made to my boat.

you will always have repairs on a boat.  Its the nature of the beast.  Water kills everything, especially salt.  The best part about going to Task Marine, from my experience is, Matt will always give your boat a proper look over, and most of the time he will find something and fix it before you get stuck on the water.  I had a small leak from my power steering, he found it, I had no idea it was leaking except for the fact I had to fill it during the season.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.
