My brother I attempted to go out Saturday. The shrewsbury looked like the ocean. Wind blew easy 25 -30 white caps all around. We thought about it for a good hour killin time by catchin snaps for bait. We bailed and rescheduled for Sunday.
Replayed the snapper routine at 5:30AM this morning, then fueled up. Nutz were in the livewell as primary bait and headed to the Ambrose. First drift 18" fluke and 16" seabass over structure. Tried several more drifts by that mark but it got ice cold. A couple robins further out the channel. Stopped by the Scotland picked a few short seabass. Moved north of the rocks. Picked a few more and two more fluke for the box. Peanuts were the ticket with squid in a tub (nice thick white 5" strips). Near noon moved to shallow water 16-20 ft. Worked squid/sand eels, squid/smelts, squid/snapper and bunker. Nuts still the charm. Decided to experiment with SPRO after this weekends banner report on the monster caught further south. I'm a big believer in SPRO. After constant hookups, my brother is now converted . After the change over and while in the shallow water the action was nonstop. SPRO with chartruese gulp minnow and the stinger with squid and gulp. Final count 11 keeper fluke, 2 keeper seabass. Only a 1/2 dozen or so throw back fluke but plenty of robins for the day. Overall, an excellent day. The seas were very flat in the AM and 1-2 ft in the late afternoon with light rain for the ride home.
