need lower unit help
« on: March 17, 2012, 02:57:42 PM »
OK, I changed out water pump, engine started right up and peeing well.  I put it in forward and reverse and the prop is only really spinning in forward gear and not as much as it should, reverse it still spins forward.  When engine is off and I put it in forward or reverse the prop spins freely.  2002 HPDI 200HP.  What did I do wrong?  I had it in neutral when I removed and replaced the lower unit.  Came off and went on without issue.

The shift shaft didn't go into the sleeve, took it of and put it on right, problem solved.

Don't feel bad about doing that.
I had mine done at a marina a few years ago and the mechanic did the same thing. But they had put everything back together and slashed my boat. Obviously, they had to pull the boat again, realign the shaft then put the boat back in. Just shows, it happens to the pros also.  TT^

Slashed :headscra: Splashed maybe??
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

You guys make me feel better.  It's funny, I remember a couple years ago pops soul answered one of my questions with a solid "you're gonna have to learn this stuff" post.  Today I feel like I do kinda know it and I have to say I'm pretty proud to be honest.  This site has been so awesome, I've made good friends and learned so much about boats, fishing, and life.  I really can't thank you all enough.

We all learn by our mistakes , as well as those of others. Keep turning wrenches, never get discouraged. I still laugh at myself sometimes about things I have done years ago.
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><
