Questions on Painting Deck

Its time to PAINT THE DECK(cockpit) with some Non-Skid paint.

Have you done it and what would you suggest as far as preparation, products and paint etc ?

havent used it but acetone is always a good thing to wipe down with

Ammonia and water to prep surface. Bleach if mold is present. They do not recommend solvents cause they tend to smear oil, grease etc. Colors are limited. I mixed my own to get the blue/gray.

Been using Acetone (very,very sparingly) on some stained spots. It MUST be washed with fresh water after using. If your not careful it will cut into the gel coat.
I will look into Aulgrip and some other paints like Interlux. Most say you have to add sand and then finish with a thin coat.
I'll do a lil more research...

you guys against rustoleum topside? Just curious. Everything I have read about topside paints many favor it.

Rustoleum makes some great products, Was not even aware they made this. Let us know how the durability is Frank. I would think much less than Awlgrip. Can you do some close-up pics of the deck?

about how much a gallon, and approx. how much decking do you get from a gallon

It didn't even take a half gallon. I have a 21 ft CC. Cost was 14.00 a quart. Second coat probably would have only taken a quart.

thats pretty good.. it goes on thin.  I have a 28' Cuddy, so all I would need is the stern section done.  Maybe next year..

Frankly its not a question of cost. I want to prep, and paint with the best stuff availbale so the job comes out right. If it takes more time and money so be it, but durability and function are most important. Tomorrow I'll call the  boat manufactuer and also speak with reps from Interlux and Augrip to see what they have to say.

After two seasons, it is still holding up,has not lost the non-skid, and cleans up well.I fish barefoot alot during the summer and it's good on the feet. While wearing shorts and kneeling down while removing hooks,untangling fish from the net, working on the boat etc. it does not rip up my knees.

Thanks for your reply Darren. I have looked into a few products and one of them is the Interlux paints.It seems to require some basic preperation and comes in White which is on the deck presently.
Another brand was Morgan which is used commercially( warehouses and fish markets); have to call their rep to see how that is applied. Some one was saying you can wear out a pair of boots in one season if you use the WRONG stuff.

You can always buy new boots, replaceing skin is a little more costly and painful.
