Reel Class Good Friday (4/6) Bass-Tog
« on: April 06, 2012, 09:32:51 PM »
First trip of the season for us today and Kenny and I had Fred M, Brian A, Brian Buddha Sticks and Jason on board for a bass/tog trip.

Broke the inlet just after 730 this morning and found some scattered gannets working just to our N on some good marks - dropped the jigs in and we had 2 fish on in the first 25 or so minutes, one on a kroc and one on a stingo pb & j. Ran around, looking for marks, stopping occasionally on some real good looking piles of fish, only to come up empty. This, unfortunately would be the pattern for the day for us.

We eventually worked our way to the S and went fishless for the next couple of hours. We decided to switch over to blackfish and made 2 drops on our S reef on 2 of my favorite pieces, only to have some bergall bites and just a few tog come up, with just 1 being a keeper taken by Jason @ 16". McCutch also landed a 12" seabass. Bottom was VERY cold, sinkers were ice cold and after an hour or so of struggling, we went back to bassin'.

We worked our way south, all the way to the piers, and found some more marks, but this time we found a couple more that wanted the krocs and got 2 more in the box - one on a DEADSTICKED kroc by Jason.

At 1 we decided to put the stretch plugs in to get some meat in the box and went up on the troll, boxing up a few more to 23# taken by Brian A.

Called it a day just after 3 after seeing no life on the ride back north - we wound up with the crew's 4 man limit of 8 bass; out of the 8 just one was "measureable" @ 31", the rest were in the 34-37" range with the big one going 23#. This sure wasn't the fishing everybody had the earlier part of the week, but we got some fish in the boat and had a real nice day on the water!

Good day Captain.   t^

Funny thing.  Not five minutes before I saw this thread I was looking at the G&B site, saw your pic, and was wondering why we haven't heard from you lately.  Strange huh? nts
