Chicken of the Sea Shakedown Striper Trip - 04/28/12
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:33:27 AM »
Left the dock at 0600 with a crew of Kirk, Lenny and Reggie for the first trip of the year. Made bait too easy with 2 throws of the net and shared the wealth with one of my buddies who was snagging nearby. Bounced north and couldn't get anything going. We were reading fish but could not get them to eat. Started trolling spoons but needed to get deeper and switched over to shad rigs with a drail. That was the key for us and we boxed up four fish to from the teens to 24 pounds in a matter of 30 minutes and decided to give livelining another try. The fish were starting to chew and we caught a few more bass and had blues mixed in. Had to head for the barn early for a family commitment, but a nice first trip. God Bless Our Troops.

Hopefully that shakedown sets the tone for the season. 3rd time's the charm for figuring out what the fish wanted...
