Shark River Inlet Friday 5/11 and Sat 5/12
« on: May 12, 2012, 06:13:13 PM »
Well plans fell through with my partner fishing with me on Friday but, I was still determined to get out, even if by myself. I made a mid morning stop at the Dick's in Brick. I ran into Bucktail for a formalized meeting and went to work cashing in my $100 Bday gift card. Well, a couple hundred dollars and a Shimano Trevalla (SP), a TM spoon and some other stuff I was out and off the marina. The plan was to do some odds and end (cleaning, new VHF antenna, new baitwell pump, etc) and then head out around 4:00 solo and meet up with another member who had a full boat.

Got a call around 1 saying he now had room! Met him and his fishing partner at the ramp in SRI and off we went. Headed north from SRI and marked fish, no jig bite. Continued deeper and decided to troll. That was the ticket. It wasn't long before the stripers were coming up the Maja spoons. We lost a very good fish boatside and took almost our 3 man limit with fish up to about 25-28#? Headed back in for grub and rest.

Back at the ramp at 4:30 this am. Out of the inlet by 5 and finding bunker by sunrise. A few throws of the net and it was back to where we were on Friday. Again, tried jigging but no luck. Live lined/chunked for 5 or so nice stripers and blues mixed in. We had our share of fun, stripers, and some blues for food/bait and called it a day.

It was a great experience for me as stripers are new for me. I had the opportunity to fish with 2 very, very experienced and knowledgable fisherman. I learned a ton which will immediately be applied to my fishing habits!

It was an excellent two days on the water!!

Good job! Now you know why bucktail has so many jigs t^ t^
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
