Hope everyone had a great weekend!
My weekend in a Nut Shell. Had family and friends this weekend at the house ( all non-fishermen ) Fished Saturday and Sunday before sunset on the boat anchored by the Manahawkin bridge. Chummed with clam and caught a bunch of blow-fish. My girlfriend caught her first fish, a blow fish and now is hooked like me. She was very excited. Its great to have a girl that loves to fish. Ended up with 25 blow fish with some being 12 inches + , and a few small sea bass that were thrown back into grow. Blow Fish are great eating! Like chicken wings but better.
Headed out Monday around 11am. Planned on fluking the inside of the Barnegat inlet but when we got close there were too many other boats and a way too much grass in the water. Ended up heading out into the ocean to drift for fluke. Rolled up on a massive school of bunker so we switched from Fluke to Bass in an instant. Went with the snag and drop technique for a while and no success. ( 1 small blue on a hopkins ) The slow drift didn't help. After a bit we switched to live-line on two poles and let them sit. While they were soaking we ended up snagging 20 or so more bunker. Headed back in with a boat load of bunker. Skunked on the bass but stuffed the freezer with bunks for crabbing.
Heading back out Sunday. Will follow-up with a successful report I hope.
