I have caught them as far up as bouy 20 when jigging for weakfish or drifting worms for bass.  Most of the fish I caught there were keeper size but usually out of season.

yes they are, go on the home page here to read the season dates and limits t^
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

grtn I was taught at this time of year they are spawing  ;) ;)....keeping them in the rivers and close in the bay. As far as how far up the river... that's anyones guess I would think..but I still think there would need to be significant water..sure you can catch some shorts in 4-5.. done that myself, but for now at this time I would go for the 20-30 ft....chat it up  chrz chrz on here and on 68 next time you go out. Friends of mine, right off of the Sea Warren launch fished inside the river under the outterbridge and in the channels on the out going tide and nailed them!  t^ t^ Tight Lines!!! And Welcome to the site!!!!!  slt slt Ms Fish.
