WOW........... How Things Have Changed Through The Year's
« on: July 03, 2012, 07:12:48 PM »
I had a phone conversation today with an old friend who I have not Talked to in year's........ We started off with some small talk about life..... followed by an hour of fishing conversation.

I started thinking after we ended the call..... About how fishing has really changed through the year's and how much we complicated things.

Year's ago if I wanted to fish bait I would rake my own Calico Crabs,Sand Fleas or Clams which all worked great for big bass.

The local tackle store only had a couple metal lures, wood plugs and Bucktails which only came in 2 colors white and black.

Then some nights we would fish for eels....save the small ones for rigging and the big eels would be skinned and put on our large swimmers with the blue side out.....For an eel skin plug.

Colors back then where white and black....
Pork rind was white or red......No rubber baits back then....
Bunker was for crabbing.....
Squid was for blow fish.....

You walk into any tackle store these days and the walls of plugs... swimming and popping......Lead heads and metal jig's.... and rubber baits in every color of the rainbow.

What happen...... Have the fish changed that much or did we complicate the sport of fishing that much more.

Show me the money...

It is always the bottom line.  I am sure those old plugs still work and the metals are not much different than the old ones.  Today the equipment is meant to catch the angler as well as the fish.  I like to keep things simple that is why I still go fly fishing and only use flies that I tied.

I guess I want to hold onto the old but I do get a kick out of some of the new gear.

Happy Catching

Sure has changed and we certainly have complicated things.  Of course, some of the technology has made fishing easier.  Fishing is just like anything though.  Sometimes the technology only complicates it more.

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
