Today we had Rick Acevedo for his annual JCAA Fluke charter to kick off our season. Accompanied by Dale Sebok, Tom Kriebel, Louis Chiuand and Hollywood Mike Rivera. Decided to go in a different direction this morning and we found a large body of Fluke. With drop and reel Fluking at times, the problem was the majority of fish were coming up short. We weeded through 70+ Fluke to catch 6 keepers including Tom Kriebel’s 5.2 pound, 24 inch fish. We would end the day with a 6th place finish in the Sandy Hook port. Another move and on the first drift we landed another keeper and a few shorts. Got a call from Capt Allen that he’s on a good bite. So I decided to pick up and make the long run. We get to the grounds to find slacking conditions and the bite having died off. Missed it by that much as Maxwell Smart used to say. Bounced around picking some shorts and Sea Bass until we got the tide back and then added 6 more keepers before it was time to head back to make the  weigh in.

Hollywood started his fluke season off with a bang landing 7 keepers. Tom would catch 3 including the 6th place Sandy Hook port fish. The guys caught a lot of Fluke today with only 12 making it into the box, accompanied by some Sea Bass and Ling. The majority of the fish were caught on Gulp. Always a good time fishing with Rick and crew.

Nice job! t^  What did you win for the 6th place fish?

6th place prize was a Penn Battle 5000 reel and and Allegiance inshore rod plus some gulp and two spools of 30 lb. Spiderwire. Very nice for 6th!  The rod feels like it will be a good bucktailer for fluke. The reel is going to be great for stripers.
