I had the pleasure today of fishing with Captain Chad on the Tagged Fish for a open boat ling trip. The morning started out very ominous with dark clouds and lightning to the west and south all the way out to the fishing grounds. We had a few rain drops but that was it.
The first two drops were OK, with us picking at the ling. Not drop and reel, but enough to keep you happy. We then made a move out to a spot by the BA Buoy and it was "STUPID" fishing until it was time to go home. I easily caught 60 to 70 ling myself with the average size from 2 to 4 pounds. LINGZILLA types.
We were catching a lot of conger eels mixing the clams with the gulp early on. Captain Chad said to take the clams off and just jig the gulp baits. BINGO!!! No more congers and it took about 2 or 3 bounces of the rod and you had a big ling on. I tried the Swimming mullets, but did best with the the Nuclear Chicken shrimp. We fished in about 130 feet of water most of the day and 8 ounces held with no problem.
Great boat and great Captain.
Will definitely be fishing with him again. It was amazing to watch him double anchor the boat from the cockpit.
Captain Chad also had 2 shark rigs out all day but we had no takers.
Tight Lines,
Bob G
PS: All my fish including the keeper Cod were caught on the "STICK".
