The Mike Mussina fishing report - started out ugly, got worse, and should have been pulled out of the drink an hour after launching!!!!
Tough day. Called in sick and convinced a buddy to do the same. Wanted to take my 5yr old out before his first year in school starts next week. Launched AH by 8 AM. Had no gameplan whatsoever. Covered alot of water today for nuttin.
Headed up CH channel working the drops, down Ambrose, across to SH channel, False Rip, then down to mouth of the Shrews, back to the AH breakwater. 5 flatties total, none over 15". Searobins were INSANE!!!! At least 50, and thats a kind estimate. 5 fluke were all taken in the channels 40ft+ Anything shallower was bird city.
Used everything under the sun - squid, spearing, smelt, killies, live nutz, salmon belly soaked in bunker oil, and bounced a Spro all day with shark belly. Had some bad juju onthe boat today.
Gave in at 2pm and anchored over small rockpile on the Belford flats. My son bailed 6-8" c-bass and porgies for an hour until he gave up. Saved the day for me. It was like catching sunnies in a lake!!!
Ah Harbor had a Staty patrolling in the Am and was there again on the way in?
Wind kicked up SE early and killed the drift on the outgoing. So it goes!
Next week at night looking for weaks....
