Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Anthony Ricci, and son, 11 year old Patrick Ricci, along with Carol Briggs and Lauren Elias all from Pennsylvania chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing off of Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had winds out of the east at 10-15 mph, seas 3 ft. and blue skies.
We had a short ride out to the fishing grounds; our fishing lines consisted of one plainer with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon, and for surface baits two Ballyhoos, two Bonito strips and a blue and white jap feather with a dredge for a teaser. We started trolling off of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL and headed south towards one of our 34 artificial wrecks. These artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale FL range from 60 out to 450 ft. of water.
On our way I could see some birds working an area so I headed towards them. Our first angler was Carol and she caught a 12 lb. Mahi Mahi. Next up was Anthony and he caught another nice Mahi Mahi weighing 10 lbs. All of a sudden a black shadow appeared behind the dredge teaser belonging to a Sailfish. Jackson, our mate, reeled in the Ballyhoo close to the teaser and the Sailfish grabbed the bait – the fight was on!!! He came jumping out of the water showing his blue neon colors, as Lauren was our angler, and she did a great job bringing the Sailfish to the boat. Patrick was our next angler, and he caught a 21 lb. Kingfish, followed by a few more Bonitos. We had a very proud and happy 11 year angler on board.
