Here is your extended NJ Fishing & Boating Labor Day Weekend Weather Outlook.  The weekend will be a mix of nice weather and some chances of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday Night and on Labor Day Monday.  However the chances are very low, mainly of scattered or isolated storms on Sunday and Monday day with the greatest chance of wider spread showers and/or thunderstorms coming Monday Night after the holiday weekend.  Temperatures will be nice in the upper and lower 80’s and lows in the lows 70’s and mid 60’s.  Water conditions are rated good for the extended weekend for all locations.  There is not any forecast of small craft advisories in this period either, however on Monday Night winds will increase and seas will build to 2-4 feet.  Increasing winds and high seas will likely carry over into the beginning of the week with small craft advisories possible for then.

Tropics have some activity, even with the departure of Isaac inland.  We will not have to contend with Isaac, if at all, until after Tuesday and just as some rain.  Then there is Hurricane Kirk and Tropical Depression 12.  Both are being modeled to track eastward out to sea and will not affect the US at all.  Tropical Depression 12 may track the closest to the US coast and will be the one to watch for any effects.

High pressure will dominate the area to start the weekend.  On Saturday a weak backdoor cold front will push through the area and then stall to the south of the region.  Brief high pressure will move back in on Sunday before moving northeast on Monday.  Monday will start transitioning of the stalled front to our south moving north as a warm front.

Here is a Weather Briefing Package put together by the NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly about Labor Day Weekend Weather.  It also discusses possible affects from Isaac and Hurricane Kirk (swells causing possible rip currents this weekend).

Effects from now, Tropical Storm Kirk will begin arriving in the area TONIGHT with some lasting effects until Monday Night when effects from Tropical Storm Leslie will arrive.  These will be very long period swells with increasing sea heights.  This will begin tonight and continue into the rest of the week. Seas will increase to 4 to 5 feet at 15+ seconds.

Here are some graphics showing the arrival of these swells.

FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ

...TROPICAL RAINS THREATEN TO PRODUCE POCKETS OF FLASH FLOODING
AT TIMES INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY...

.A WARM FRONT ACROSS DELMARVA WILL BE SLOWLY LIFTING NORTH THROUGH
TUESDAY AS LOW PRESSURE MOVES FROM THE LOWER OHIO VALLEY TOWARD NEW
YORK STATE. THE LOW SHOULD TRAIL A WEAK COOL FRONT SOUTHWARD INTO
THE DELAWARE VALLEY ON WEDNESDAY. POCKETS OF SHORT DURATION EXCESSIVE
RAINS ARE PROBABLE IN THIS PATTERN...ESPECIALLY SINCE THE BANDS OF
SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOVING ONLY VERY SLOWLY
NORTHEASTWARD.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHERN DELAWARE...NEW
JERSEY AND SOUTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
AREAS...IN NORTHERN DELAWARE...NEW CASTLE. IN NEW JERSEY...
  CAMDEN...GLOUCESTER...MERCER...NORTHWESTERN BURLINGTON AND

* GENERAL RAINFALL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES IS EXPECTED BY DAYBREAK
WEDNESDAY IN THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR FROM NEAR TRENTON
THROUGH THE PHILADELPHIA METRO AREA INTO NORTHERN DELAWARE.

* FOR NOW...THE PRIMARY FLOOD THREAT IS FOR SMALL STREAMS AND POOR
DRAINAGE AREAS. BANDS OF HEAVY SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS
CAN EASILY PRODUCE 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN IN AN HOURS TIME. IF A
BAND OF HEAVY SHOWERS LINGERS...EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WOULD RESULT
IN FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS AND AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.

* THE HEAVY SHOWERS AND ISOLATED EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS MOVING
NORTHWARD THROUGH THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOULD
QUIT FOR A TIME BUT THEN MAY START AGAIN BY DAYBREAK. THE
LARGER SCALE OUTBREAK OF HEAVY RAINS SHOULD DEVELOP SOMETIME
TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND LAST INTERMITTENTLY INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING
AS A WEAK FRONT MOVES EASTWARD THROUGH PENNSYLVANIA.

* THERE ALREADY HAVE BEEN ABOUT REPORTS OF MORE THAN 3 INCHES OF
RAIN TODAY IN PARTS OF SOUTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA AND NORTHERN
DELAWARE. THIS RESULTED IN ISOLATED FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS
AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. LARGER SCALE FLOOD EVENTS ARE POSSIBLE
BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. ISOLATED STORM TOTALS BETWEEN 4 PM THIS
AFTERNOON AND 6 AM WEDNESDAY MAY APPROACH 6 INCHES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS
