Chris just be careful not that the generator cant produce the power but the receptacles on the gennies get real hot and sometimes melt, If it feels hot unplug some stuff, and with all this confusin
1,000 watts = 1 KW
1,000 Kws = 1 Mw
1 mw= enough electricity to powers 18 homes under a normal load

Secondly usually  it will say Kwh or Mwh or wph this means it can produce that in 1 hour

so a 6kwh gennie will produce 6 kilowatts over an one hour period

or 1 kw every 10 minutes.

Hope that helps  t^

In my opinion, all you need to generate is the refrigerator and your surge protecter for the Tv/cable box.  The stove is gas, no need for heat or AC, maybe a few lights. No need to buy anything huge.

I use a 5kw and I can run the heat, some lights tv and the coffee pot. I have propane hot water heater and city water. I can run a burner on the stove, but that puts a load on it, so just use the grill burner if needed.
So you 6kw should work great.
Dont forget to leave the front light on.  rofla

this is what I have.  Again, all I need it for is the refrigerator and the power cord for the TV/cable box.  I can deal with everything else.. fill up bath tub to flush the toilet, candles, and many gallons of water.

Now, my mother has one hooked up to her house and automatically turns on when the power fails.  You would never even know the power went out if it wasn't for the humming noise outside.  If I am not mistaken, that one was under $3,000.00

I wouldn't worry about noise level.  You can put it at the far end of your house so you don't hear it.
