Irish Ayes pre-hurricane trip

With Sandy coming up the coast and not knowing the results she will bring I needed to get in another trip before she arrived.

Left the dock with Peter, Dennis and Andy on board. Cleared SR Inlet and saw a small group of birds hitting the water past the bell buoy. Got to their position just in time to watch them disperse. Headed south toward the hotel at Spring Lake, approximately two miles out. Found some marks and jigged some blue fish.

The bite there quickly disintegrated so we headed north. Found some marks off the inlet but had no takers. Got a text from ReelNauti Bill that they were picking bass off of Asbury (thanks Bill). Being only a short distance away we headed there but arrived after the bite shut down.

The dreaded (that description's for you Oz) trolling rods came out and we motored at a slow bell. Not long into the troll we picked up several blues. A short distance more and we had a striped one in the box, taped out at 36".

Finished the day jigging as we headed back to the inlet.

Cleaned the boat and fish and secured the Irish Ayes at the dock with some extra lines and fenders. Hopefully she rides out the storm as well as she takes the waves while underway. 

I hope that everyone makes out well with the storm.

nice job.. Im sure she will be fine.. Im hoping my Grady makes it through this as well.  I had to loosen the lines to adjust for the High tide, brought down my antennas, lowered my flags on my outriggers, added fenders, and now the wait begins for everyone..

My boat is on a floating dock so I have no worries about the tide height. The boat will go up and down with the dock. It just needs to go up and down in step with the dock.

BigAl, at my marina, if the water floats the dock over the pilings the marina lot will be filled with water also. All the boats on the blocks would float off the blocks and wonder around Neptune and Belmar.  Therefore, I elected to keep the boat in the water.

The boats on the hard will be susceptible to getting blown off the blocks as I see it. Or float way if the water rises to that level.

I hope I'm right anyway.

At my marina the lot fills up on high tide They pulled all the boats out of the racks today also And as Eddie said in a previous post a storm in the 90's took boats from our marina and put them on the parkway

Glad to hear you got out today Joe. Seems like you and Jeff (Pilot) were the last of the breed to fish.

Wishing the Irish Ayes luck on getting through this storm unscathed.  There's still more fishing to do once this witch Sandy gets out of here.

Brought the Baitwaster home to PA. yesterday, hope you have a really tall dock. They are calling for an 8' storm surge in that area You might want to reconsider.

Well, the pilings that the dock floats up and down on are about 6-8 feet higher than ground level (parking lot where the boats on land will be stored). If the water gets high the boats in the parking lot will float away before the docks are turned loose.
