This was one of those trips! We had a heck of a good day and you know what it felt great to get out and try to get some normalcy back after the madness. Couldn't have had a better crew
I got word that the ZO was back in and texted the boys on Weds to get their gear ready cause we were sailing.
T-bone, Capt Don Jr, Capt Crazy and Kooz were equally jacked and the Dog Catcher was doing cartwheels when he heard we pulled a rabbit out of the hat and we were getting out.
The ride out was uneventful but it was abundantly clear the havoc that was wreaked on the waterfronts. The tip of the hook and rips have been altered considerably.
Made way to the reef and laid it down on the number. On the second attempt, the spike took a good bite.
Kooz broke out his stick and was first to forewarn us that there were fish around. A couple of quick quality fish are put into the mosolieum. After we settle in and everyones dropping lead the mayhem began. Fish started coming over the rail, tunes are piping meanwhile Capt Crazy is having some fun of his own. We hear this thump and turnaround to check it out. Crazy is on his back like a turtle. Poor guy slipped on some clam snot after the fine shucking job he just did. We're going to get him a hammock for the next outing
Capt Don Jr. just put an all out assault on the bucktooths today. The kid was a tog machine banging them with no mercy. We had plenty of fish that would have kept under the prior regs but had no problem bouncing 4-5 lbers into the tub. The majority of the fish were in the 3lb range. We were holding out hope for someone to bang a double digi but it didn't happen and we had no problem taking the good quality fish we got. Greens or clam it didn't really matter.
Kooz was having a good day at it too. So, he decides to retire his custom seeker (aka burble) and break out "Lewis Black". Now Lewis, is three foot stick that looks more like a tippet for ice fishing. But here the kicker. Kooz literally made a beautifully constructed wooden case for "Lewis Black" just for this trip. Son of bitch had it rigged up so that when you opened up the lid, it played "Bad to the Bone". He ends up put this thing through the paces and starts poking the tog going toe to toe with everyone else. The guy is a legend!!
The Dog Catcher broke out some of the finest ribs and pickled eggs to get the party started. One helluva treat. Thanks brother! Now this is a first too, he never got a snif from doggie the entire day. DP put a hurting on a couple of really nice blackies and the grin says it all.
Tbone.... what can you say. He's steady Eddie. Put the hurting on a couple of them real quick, picked up the pace latter in the day and finished strong. Had the pool winner for a while until we all started pulling the same cookie cutters. No clear winner here so we scraped the competition.
Well we had almost 5 hrs of steady action. Ended up 2 short of a 6 man limit. Plenty of just shy throw backs. Sure felt good to get out another time with a great bunch guys
