Anyone ever donate a boat?
« on: February 27, 2013, 08:53:15 PM »
Trying to see what the process is, how it all works, and how long it takes.  Need to reclaim some driveway space.

Never have but don't think it's too hard. Try Boat Angel. what are you looking to get rid of?

I have.  A few years back I was looking for a trailer for my center console.  A friend of my brother-in-law died and his widow wanted to get rid of an old beat up boat they had in their yard.

I wasn't interested in the boat, just the trailer.  The problem was, what do you do with the boat?  I called a few places that wanted to charge me to haul the boat away.  Then I found a guy who was doing a "donate you boat" thing and I told him of my situation.  He said that's no problem.  They take any boat in any condition.

A few days later he came with a flatbed, hooked up the winch to the boat and dragged it off the trailer.  It was a win-win.  I got my trailer and a receipt for tax purposes, and he got his donation! t^

I can't think of the name of the place I used but you can probably Google it.

I seen that Rick. I went to their website and seen something I wanted to bid on, but only licensed dealers are allowed to bid here in NJ. That leaves us common folks hit out of luck.

How big was the boat and how did he load it on the flatbed?    Mine is 27' LOA.  not really wanting to block it if they're going to drag in up the flabed.  It's between my house and my neighbors house and don't want to take a chance of it rolling either way.  I'm keeping my trailer.  I got other plans for that. Gonna strip all the cleats, motors, and the newer steering system I put in.

From the next to last paragraph of the article:
Quote
The auctions are open to dealers only, but QCSA Direct can put individuals in contact with brokers if they wanted to purchase items for sale, Smock said.
