Night Vs. Day in the Early Spring
« on: March 23, 2013, 07:08:26 PM »
It's still early and the water is still cold. I know fish like the outgoing tide during the day in the bay after the water had a chance to warm up a little, but what about at night? Obviously the water is going to be a little colder at night than during the day. Will this turn the fish off? Will the fish be more active during the day when the water is a bit warmer?

Hard to say exactly .....but i will say this as FACT.....
I thought all the night trips(and i mean darkness....not late afternoon to dusk) pretty much SUCKED for stripers last year....Worming in the summer was not what it had been....Eeling the channels in the middle of night absolutely stunk for the most part.....oh yeah....we read the fish but they would not hit anything.....i remember 10 yrs ago was lights out fishing the channels with eels in Oct and Nov.....i hope that fishery comes back....
Something about being out there in pitch dark....definately a calming feeling but at the same time the Capt. Needs to be on his "A" game out there.

I like deep night time during the mid summer and early fall. Any other time it's a right place right time right bait type of thing. Spring is worms or clams at the right tide at the right spot. Late spring early summer is anything bunker when the bunker are around when the bass are on the bunker. Mid summer it's a weird bite that happens best for me on the darkest nights. Early fall I find where the bait is staged up and play the tides. Last couple of falls has been a dawn/dusk/hate to be a sand eel bite.
