and for those who may "drift over the line", don't forget you DO need to register in NY also. NJ and NY DO NOT have reciprocity for some unfathomable reason.

FYI on the NJDEP site:

NOTICES

There are currently technical issues with the license website when using Internet Explorer version 10 or higher with Windows 7 and 8 due to a recent Microsoft update. We are working diligently to resolve them.

In order to facilitate your purchase in the meantime, you may use a different internet browser (e.g. an earlier version of IE, Firefox, Chrome, etc.). Alternatively, you may contact the call center at 1-888-277-2015, or visit a license agent. We apologize for the inconvenience

I read that if I'm fishing for Anadromous species in the Hudson, This license covers me.  Anyone know if thats the case?  I'm looking to fish around Newburgh and a bit further north.

the way I read it you are correct. Marine registry only if your only target is stripers and/or herring. Freshwater license for any other species in the Hudson (north of the GWB.)

From the NY fishing regs site...

Quote
License requirements

Depending on the specific location of the Hudson River fishing activities, and/or the specific species fished for, an angler may need to have a recreational marine fishing registry, a fishing license or both :

If you are fishing downstream from the Tappan Zee Bridge, you are considered fishing in the marine and coastal district and will need to enroll in the recreational marine fishing registry.
If you are fishing upstream from the Tappan Zee Bridge and are fishing for non-migratory fish (such as largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, catfish, carp, walleye, and perch) only, you need to have a fishing license.
If you are fishing upstream from the Tappan Zee Bridge and are fishing for "migratory fish from the sea" (such as striped bass, hickory shad, and anadromous river herring (blueback herring, or alewife)) only, you need to enroll in the recreational marine fishing registry.
If you are fishing upstream from the Tappan Zee Bridge and are fishing for migratory fish from the sea and non-migratory fish, you need to enroll in a recreational marine fishing registry and also have a fishing license.

Definitely not well spelled out, but it appears that, as Warren said, only the registration if you are targeting migratory fish ONLY.

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Nope, not true, that's the link I used. You need your NYDEC number. For new customers go here:
