Hunter 2, weekend May 4 and 5 Raritan Bay
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:07:47 AM »
Saturday we pulled out of Keyport at 9am to fish the incoming tide with Cashin, MassBaster Steve, Anthony and Brian. We Set up to troll the slack tide towards the 18 and down the reach towards the 12 then up to 11A. Nothing was hitting the lures and we changed the variety several times. The  chatter on the VHF confirmed that things were pretty slow after the tide change and it was an early bite.
We anchored up in 20' of water and started wacking clams and the action started. A bunch of Stripers came over the side but were just short. A keeper tog came up along with bluefish and LR's and skates all to be returned.
I made another move to shallower water and the action picked up but still they were short. The only big fish came unbuttoned boatside. Big Al came over to say hello and fished for awhile. grtn We called it a day and had no keeper Stripers to show for it.
Sunday Scott G and I head out for a quick trip at 8:30 and no hits in the shallow water on clam  "wind against tide" :P We trolled the usual spots in the bay and went down by the candlesticks with no luck. I came across Jeff "Pilot" and spoke to him as he was pulling anchor and heading home.  He did well so we anchored up in that area and clammed . The incoming tide just started to move and the bite turned on. We caught several shorts and another tog that were picking away at our baits. Scott landed a nice 34" Striper. We had to head in and leave them biting to attend an early party. The water outside the hook was pretty snotty.  Thanks Jeff for the parking spot. t^

TT^ nice seeing you out there
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
