Hunter 2, Raritan Bay 5,10,2013
« on: May 11, 2013, 10:51:41 AM »
Fished after work Solo. Pulled out of Keyport at 4:45pm with trolling gear. The tide was incoming and there was a small chop. I set a a Maja spoon on a new Maja rod with an 8oz drail and 15' 50lb Mono leader. The second rod was a new Tournament cable umbrella with a stretch 25 down the center. I trolled the deeper side of 11A and the spoon rod started peeling line. It felt pretty big.   As I was reeling the other rods line started getting close to the One was fighting. So I tried to retrieve some of the other line. "BIG MISTAKE"     :P  . I lost the fish on the spoon Rod..
I reset and got a nice hit on the umbrella rig and that fish came unbuttoned too. So for the rest of the evening I just trolled one rod because its too difficult to handle 2 rods alone and drive the boat.
I made a quick move to shallower water west of the 18 buoy and the Maja rod went down. I fought the fish for a few minutes and got the drail weight to the tip of the rod. . I had to hand line the 15' leader and saw a nice big Striper. I grabbed the spoon with my hand and hauled a nice 36"  20 pounder over the side. t^
I head in around 8pm before I lost the sunlight.
    Good Luck,   slt   Eddie

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
