the inlet itself is safe from sandbars, the bars are actually west of the inlet... at low tide, you will be able to see the sandbars and realize that its not as wide as it looked at high tide.

That channel has even the old timers scratching their heads and saying you got to be crazy to navigate it at the speeds some of these yahoo's do.

As the guys have said:pick your days in the beginning when the wind is Not Blowing too hard,run the inlet with an experienced Capt.,build up your confidence and get to know how the boat reacts in wind and throttle.Then slowly try in more wind and sloppy seas(the day might come when your out and Have to get in)Experience.Then attempt it at night.
I always have a concern while going astern into the slip. Each time the wind or conditions change e.g.other boats coming out, or going in.Don't want to damage my neighbors boatsor mine.Everbody has concerns,but with experience comes confidence.Since 1975 I say any day now any day!!!!!.Stay Well, AJ

Hell, years ago we navigated from the Manahawkin bridge to the Bary inlet, in the dark without a gps...  It was like HELL..

I agree, We had a house on Silver Bay and trying to navagate from there to the inlet at night took some doing.  You never got use to it I know I never did.

There were and still are so many twists and turns.  I did not go out to many times that far south in the dark.

I can remember standing on the bow trying to find the blinking bouys...  They were way to far and out of site.  Thank got for Today's gps

When I was stationed at Barnegat Light CG station, I knew that bay inside and out.  Could run it any time, day or night, fog, you name it.  Now, I wouldn't even want to attempt to run it like I did before.

That comes with experience.  I spent a lot of time on the water there.  Pulled many a boat off a sand bar.  That's when the CG used to do them kind of things.  Most of our runs were for grounded boats.  Now you have Sea Tow and Boat US.  CG can not tow now unless person or property are in imminent danger.

I'm in Brick. After hearing these things, maybe something closer to Manasquan Inlet would be better. The marina offering me a "Deal" at $100-$110/ft is OVER PRICED anyway. <'((((><

FishinDude, I'm in Belmar, one mile from the ocean.  I pay $100 a foot for my slip there.  Easy ride out.
