NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook: Week Edition July 1-5, 2013

Here is your Fourth of July Week Outlook.  The week will start off very unsettled through Wednesday before High Pressure starts controlling the region.  However, the weather pattern is working in reverse this week.  Instead of west to east, the Bermuda High Pressure that brought us the heat and humidity last week will be moving back toward the west to do it all over again by the end of the weekend into the weekend and next week.  High temperatures will start off in the low to mid 80's for the beginning of the week, increasing to mid to upper 80's midweek and the upper 80's to low 90's inland and low to mid 80's along/on the water by the end of the week.  Humidity will be moderate (when it isn't raining) through the midweek before increasing to higher levels midweek through the end of the week.  Skies will remain cloudy through midweek before becoming more sunny than cloudy.  Chances of rain and thunderstorms will be higher and more widely scattered to widespread through Wednesday before becoming much lower and more of an isolated or scattered event toward the end of the week.  Some of these thunderstorms during the week could become severe if the conditions are right.  Water conditions will start off questionable to cautious this week eventually becoming good for bays, rivers and inshore waters by midweek.  With a continued southerly flow, a significant long period swell may increase this week with moderate to long period waves.  Monday will be the worst day on the water with conditions slowly improving over the following days.  Monday and Tuesday could see Small Craft Advisories, gusty winds and elevated seas for near coastal and inshore waters.  Midshore to Offshore look to be cautious all week with Small Craft Advisories, gusty winds to 25 knots and seas 7-8 feet.  Water temperatures are near the same or slightly warmer for rivers and bays in the mid to upper 70's. Inshore waters are in the low 70's with some areas, including surf temperatures feeling the effects of the southerly swell upwelling and are in the low to mid 60's.  Midshore to Offshore waters have made it into the low 70's now.  Surf and beach conditions will be elevated on Monday and Tuesday with some gustier winds, high and rough surf and Moderate to High Risks for rip currents.  Wednesday will be a transition day with less winds, lower waves and Moderate to Low Risk of rip currents.  Thursday and Friday are questionable again.  If a long period swell with moderate period persists this week, rip currents will remain Moderate for the end of the week.  UV Index all week will be Very High. 

A frontal boundary along the Appalachians will be pushed westward to the Mississippi Valley during the mid week and then eventually dissipate.  Strong High Pressure in the Western Atlantic will also shift westward and sit along the Mid Atlantic Coast Friday through next weekend.  This will usher in and mark the start of another heat wave and continuing the southerly flow.

This weekend looks to be hot, hazy and humid.  Low to mid 90's inland with mid 80's along/on the water.  The air will be very humid brining heat indices into the upper 90's and into the 100's.  Skies will be mostly sunny with clouds building in during the day and chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon to evening hours.  The threat of severe weather is there as well.  Water and surf & beach conditions look to be good too right now.

The Tropics are quiet for the Atlantic so far.  Let's leave it that way!

Cloudy this morning with rain and thunderstorms moving in from west over the entire state.  These storms have heavy rains with Flood Watches and some Flash Flood Warnings with them in PA so far.  There is more rain and thunderstorms behind this first line today.  Rain and thunderstorms are possible all day and into the overnight.  Some of these storms could be strong to severe with a threat of damaging winds and possible tornadoes today.  High temperatures today will be in the low 80's with moderate humidity (high when it's raining ).  Lows only into the low 70's.  Winds could also be gusty approaching 20 mph at times separate from any storms.

Water conditions are cautious for all locations with Small Craft Advisories still posted and some Dense Fog Advisories for Raritan Bay.  Fog is a problem this morning for most Coastal and Marine Waters.  It will be much slower to clear out with the lack of sun, too.  Despite the SCA's and Fog this morning, conditions are actually below SCA criteria in areas, however by mid morning to afternoon that will change!  Raritan Bay will have SE winds 5-10 knots becoming S at 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots before subsiding again tonight.  Seas are 1 foot or less becoming 2 feet and subsiding tonight to 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have S winds to 18 knots with seas 1-2 feet increasing to 2 feet later in the day.  Delaware Bay will have S winds 10-15 knots with seas 2-3 feet.  Inshore waters will have S winds in excess of 20 knots with seas 4-5 feet as high as 4-6 feet at 7-8 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore will have SSW winds to 20+ knots with seas 6-7 feet at 8 seconds.  Visibility will be limited to 1-3 nm.

Surf and beach conditions will be elevated today.  Surf will increase and become rough with S winds picking up 15-20 mph and wave heights 4-5 feet with a 5-6 foot SE swell at 7 seconds.  There is a Moderate Risk of rip currents.  UV Index Very High at 9/15.  Be careful on the beaches and in the water today with the higher than normal surf conditions and threat of thunderstorms!

Good morning!  Here is your Tuesday Weather Another cloudy morning with some scattered light showers around the state.  It looks to be a repeat of yesterday for the most part.  More widespread rain is approaching from the south/southwest and this pattern will continue off and on all day.  In addition to rain, there is a chance of some strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, dangerous lightning, heavy rains and possible tornadoes.  Yesterday there was a confirmed EF-0 tornado in Union County that caused tree and house damage over 4.8 miles.  Flood Watches are posted for most of the western half of the state and a Flood Warning is active for Burlington County and the North Branch of the Rancocas Creek.  Temperatures again today will only be in the low 80's with very humid air again.  If the sun can get out at all today (unlikely) it may be able to burn off some of this moisture in the air, otherwise it is going to be extremely humid all day.  Lows tonight only down into the upper 60's to low 70's.  Some coastal and marine areas are seeing fog again this morning which will be slow to clear out.

Water conditions will be cautious today with continued Small Craft Advisories and conditions worsening later this morning into the afternoon. A strong southerly flow will continue to persist causing gusty winds, elevated seas and an elevated longer period southern swell bringing upwelling waters and colder than normal water temperatures. Raritan Bay currently has S winds 5-10 knots with gusts to 20 knots.  Winds will increase 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots and then change to the SW tonight and diminish to 5-10 knots.  Seas 1-2 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less.  Visibility will be 1-3 nm at times during rain and thunderstorms.  Barnegat Bay will have SSW winds to 15 knots gusting to 20 knots at times with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have S winds 10-15 knots with seas 2-3 feet and visibility limited at times to 1-3 nm.  Inshore waters will start off with SSW winds 15-20 knots with some higher gusts and increase slightly this afternoon.  Southern areas will see higher winds and seas generally.  Seas will be 4-5 feet at 7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will see SSW winds 10-15 knots increasing to 15-20 knots with some higher gusts and seas 6-7 feet at 8 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions will be elevated and moderate today.  Right now winds are calm out of the SE bringing some heavier fog into the beaches.  Winds will shift to the south and increase to 15 mph with rougher surf and wave heights around 4 feet and a 4 foot swell at 7 seconds.  There is a Moderate Risk of rip currents today.  UV Index is High at 7/15.  If you surf fish today or just go to the beach, be alert for building surf conditions and any thunderstorms that could pop-up.

Good morning!  Here is Wednesday's Weather Outlook.  A transitional day with sun mixing with clouds today.  There are some scattered showers across the state with more showers south and west of our area.  There is a continued chance of scattered showers today mixed in with some possible thunderstorms.  Another humid day with some sea fog along coastal and marine areas.  The sun should be able to burn most of that off today by mid afternoon, as long as the break in clouds remains long enough.  High temperatures in the mid to upper 80's inland with low to mid 80's along/on the water.  Lows tonight in the low 70's.  Slightly breezier day today with 10 mph winds increasing to 12-15 mph winds this afternoon.  There are currently not any Advisories, Watches or Warnings for the state or adjacent coastal waters...the first in many days!

Water conditions have improved a little and Small Craft Advisories have been canceled on all waters.  There is still a decent southerly flow which will remain in place over the next several days. Winds will start off calm this morning and increase this afternoon, however conditions are still supposed to remain just under SCA criteria.  Raritan Bay will have S winds changing over to SW winds this afternoon at 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less and some patchy fog tonight with visibility 1-3 nm.  Barnegat Bay will  have SSW winds 8-12 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Delaware Bay will have S winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots and seas 2-3 feet.  Inshore waters will have SSW winds 10-15 knots with seas 3 feet at 7 seconds increasing winds to 20 knots and seas 3-4 feet at 6-7 seconds this afternoon.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have SW winds 13-18 knots with seas 4 feet at 7 seconds increasing winds to 20 knots this afternoon.  Afternoon conditions will be cautious and border SCA criteria.

Surf and beach conditions are still slightly elevated and moderate.  Winds are calm and variable this morning with lower surf conditions.  Many places are experiencing some foggy conditions immediately along the beach and marine areas.  South winds will pickup throughout the morning and afternoon increasing to 10-15 mph with rougher surf conditions building to 3 feet with a 3 foot swell at 7 seconds.  There is a Moderate Risk of rip currents again today.  UV Index Very High at 9/15.

Here's a special holiday update for the 4th of July.  Weather and water conditions are improving and tomorrow should be nice for the majority of the state, the majority of the day.  The day will start off sunny with a mix of clouds with some foggy conditions along coastal and marine areas.  This fog will get "burned off" faster tomorrow.  A continued southerly flow will still be there, but winds will not be as strong as they have been earlier in the week.  There is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms statewide, but the biggest chance (which is still a low chance) is isolated more to western and northwestern parts of the state earlier in the day.  By afternoon and into the night clouds will have cleared out more.  High temperatures in the upper 80's inland with low 80's along/on the water with humid air and muggy conditions.  Lows only down in the low 70's again.

Inshore water conditions are looking good with SW/SSW winds 15 knots or less.  Raritan Bay will see 1-2 foot seas, Barnegat Bay 1 foot or less, Delaware Bay 2-3 feet and ocean waters 3 feet at 6 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore will see good conditions earlier becoming cautious in the afternoon with WSW/SW winds to 20 knots and seas 4 feet at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions will be normal to elevated with a Moderate Risk of rip currents tomorrow.  Winds will be SW to 15 mph and wave heights 2-3 feet  with a 3 foot swell at 6-7 seconds.  UV Index will be Very High at 9/15.

Friday looks even better than tomorrow with dry conditions, a heat up into the 90's and good water conditions all around.  The weekend is looking about the same as well.

Good morning!  Here is the 4th of July Weather Outlook.  A mix of sun and clouds this morning with some light patchy fog along coastal and marine areas.  The fog is not as heavy as the last few days and seems to be isolated to ocean waters, as I can see the beach and surf on the many webcams I check .  Clouds will vary today, with less clouds and more sun today for most areas.  Hazy, hot and humid have returned with mostly dry conditions today across the state.  There is a low chance of scattered or more isolated showers or thunderstorms, especially in western and northwestern areas.  The chances will decrease throughout the day as well, overall, however any time you have hot and humid conditions, there is always a chance of am afternoon or evening thunderstorm to pop-up.  High temperatures will be in the low 90's with higher humidity and heat indices into the upper 90's and 100's.  Heat Advisories have been issued for urban areas of NYC.  Along or on the water temperatures will be in the low to mid 80's with even upper 70's directly out on the waters.  Lows will only make the low 70's again with even more humidity in the overnight.

Water conditions look good for all locations, however with a continued southerly flow.  Winds could get gusty this afternoon into tonight, as well.  Raritan Bay will have SW winds 5-10 knots this morning increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots before diminishing after midnight.  Seas 1 foot or less increasing to 1-2 feet at 6 seconds this afternoon and subsiding to 1 foot or less after midnight.  Barnegat Bay will have SW/SSW winds to 15 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots after midnight with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have S winds around 10 knots increasing 10-15 knots in the evening before changing to SW and diminishing to 5-10 knots after midnight with seas 1-2 feet all day.  Inshore waters will have SW wind changing to SSW 10-15 knots with some higher gusts to near 20 knots with seas 3 feet at 6-7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore will have WSW/SW winds to 20 knots with seas 4 feet at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are normal to slightly elevated surf with Moderate Risk of rip currents today, mainly due to the increased swell.  Wind and surf are calm this morning with SSE winds around 5 mph and waves 1-2 feet.  Winds will increase from the south at 10-15 mph with some rougher surf and waves building to around 3 feet with a 3 foot south swell at 6 seconds.  UV Index Very High at 10/15.

Good Morning here is Friday's Weather Outlook.  It is sunny with a few clouds and already hot and humid.  Temperatures and humidity will continue today with highs reaching the low to mid 90's inland.  There is an Excessive Heat Watch for parts of Western NJ and Heat Advisory for NYC.  With the higher humidity, heat indices could easily reach the 100's today.  Temperatures along/on the water will be in the low to mid 80's.  Overnight lows will only be into the 70's.  Overall, it will remain dry today.  There is always a chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the late afternoon or evening when these higher temperatures and humidity are present, but this is a very low chance.  It will be breezy as well, but a warm breeze out of the southwest up to 11 mph.

Water conditions look good for all locations.  There is still a southerly flow, but it has backed off some as the high has neared the coast.  Raritan Bay will have SW winds 5-10 knots increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots in the afternoon then diminishing to 5-10 knots at night with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have SSW winds to 10 knots or so and seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have S/SW winds to 10 knots and seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters from Sandy Hook to Barnegat Inlet will have WSW winds changing to SSW to 15 knots and seas 2 feet at 15 seconds.  Barnegat Inlet to Cape May will have SW winds to 16 knots and seas 3 feet at 7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have WSW/SW winds to 18 knots and seas 3-4 feet at 7 seconds then increasing to 15 seconds.  Closer to shore seas continue at 3 feet at 5-6 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions look good with normal surf conditions and a Low Risk of rip currents.  No fog visible today on satellite or webcams.  A light breeze this morning out of the WSW around 5-10 mph and wave heights 1-2 feet.  This will increase to south winds 10-15 mph with wave heights to 3 feet and a 3 foot south swell at 7 seconds.  UV Index Very High at 10/15.  Even though there is a Low Risk of rip currents it does not mean there is NO risk!
