Here we go again, like deja-vu.  As the high pressure moves south and east, troughs and boundaries will try and move through the area bringing a week of unsettled weather.  This will bring chances of isolated or scattered showers and thunderstorms all week.  The area could see upwards of 2 inches of rain over the next 7 days.  Some of the thunderstorms could be strong to severe this week.  Despite the high moving off some, there will continue to be a southerly flow keeping temperatures and humidity up this week before getting a slight reprieve on Friday and into the weekend with the passing cold front.  High temperatures inland will continue in the upper 80's to low 90's with low to mid 80's along on the water with overnight lows only into the 70's for Monday through Thursday.  Friday will bring inland highs in the low 80's with mid to upper 70's and low 80's along/on the water with lows into the upper 60's.  Water conditions will vary by day and location all week.  Bays and rivers look to have good conditions all week, with Northern Inshore ocean waters looking good all week with some gustier winds on Thursday.  Southern Inshore ocean waters look good except for Wednesday Night through Thursday with cautious conditions and possible Small Craft Advisories.  Midshore to Offshore waters will also be good except for Wednesday Night through Thursday with cautious conditions and Small Craft Advisories for gusty winds and elevated seas.  Water temperatures are slightly higher overall with rivers and bays in the upper 70's to low 80's, Inshore ocean waters from upper 60's to mid 70's,  Midshore to Offshore waters in the mid 70's and surf temperatures ranging from upper 50's to low 70's.  Surf and beach conditions look normal all week with Low to Moderate Risks of rip currents possible and wave heights increasing to around 2-3 feet with a southern swell around 2-3 feet

The weekend looks to be a repeat of the weekdays with scattered or isolated showers and thunderstorms with low 80's inland and mid to upper 70's along/on the water with low 70's overnight.  Water conditions could see cautious conditions for all locations on Saturday with possible Small Craft Advisories, but Sunday looks good.  Surf and beach conditions also look good going into the weekend with Saturday seeing some gustier winds and elevated wave heights possible.

The Bermuda High Pressure that has been anchored off the Mid Atlantic Coast will weaken some and drift south and east through much of the week.  On Monday an upper air disturbance will move through.  A cold front will slowly arrive late Wednesday Night and Thursday, then it should stall near our region Friday and Saturday.  Then the front may dissipate as the Bermuda High Pressure strengthens again and retrogrades back into the region repeating this weather pattern again!

There is an area of tropical moisture in the Gulf of Mexico that will get entrained in a trough/frontal boundary and bring rains to the Gulf Coast and eventually into the Eastern US.  An area out in the Atlantic will likely develop into a tropical cyclone at some point over the next few days.  What it becomes and where is goes is too soon to tell, but it will be something I will be watching through the NHC this week.

Good morning!  Monday is looking hazy, hot and humid again!  A mix of sun and clouds today with more clouds in the southern half of the state building in from the southwest.  Today is going to be slightly cooler and a little less humid than the weekend.  Temperatures will be in the upper 80's inland with low 80's along on the water.  Overnight lows in the upper 60's to low 70's.  There is a chance of isolated or scattered thunderstorms across the state today.  The SPC has placed all of NJ in a generalized risk of severe weather.  Some of the thunderstorms could become strong to severe with damaging winds, dangerous lightning and heavy rains.  Be alert to any pop-up storms, especially if you are outdoors today.

Water conditions are rated good today for all locations.  There is still a dominant southerly flow, although not as prominent as last week.  Raritan Bay will have SW winds 10-15 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots later tonight with seas 1-2 feet.  Barnegat Bay will have WSW winds 8-11 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have SW winds around 10 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have WSW winds 8-12 knots with seas 2 feet at 13 seconds in the north and 2 feet at 5-6 seconds for the south.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have WSW winds 11-17 knots with seas 4 feet at 5 seconds subsiding to 3 feet at 13 seconds in the afternoon.

Surf and beach look good with normal conditions and a Low Risk of rip currents today.  Winds and surf are calm this morning with WSW winds to 5 mph and wave heights 1-2 feet.  Winds could increase today out of the SW at 10-15 mph with wave heights around 2 feet with a 2 foot south swell at 5 seconds (period will increase this afternoon).  UV Index is High at 7/15.  If you are out on the beach today, keep alert for any approaching or pop-up storms!

Have a great day!

Good morning!  This weather is starting to sound like a broken record.  Another hazy, hot and humid day very much like yesterday.  There is a mix of sun and clouds with more clouds building in today making it mostly cloudy with some sun peeking through.  There were some scattered and isolated showers across the central portion of the state this morning.  High temperatures will be in the upper 80's maybe some 90's today inland with low to mid 80's along/on the water with very moist and humid air.  Overnight lows only into the low 70's again!  There is a chance of isolated or scattered showers and thunderstorms again all day, most likely in the afternoon to evening hours through sunset.  The SPC has placed our area in a generalized risk for severe weather so some of these storms could be strong to severe with damaging winds, dangerous lightning and heavy rains!  Be alert for any of these pop-up type storms today.

Water conditions are rated good today for all locations with a continued southerly flow and shorter period swell for the southern half of the state.  Raritan Bay will have SW winds around 5 knots changing to S winds at 10 knots in the afternoon with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have SSW winds to 9 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have SW winds 5-10 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Northern Inshore ocean waters will have WSW winds 8-11 knots with seas 2 feet at 13 seconds.  Southern Inshore ocean waters will have WSW winds 8-14 knots with seas 2 feet at 5-6 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have WSW winds 11-16 knots with seas 3 feet at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach looks good today with normal conditions and a Low Risk for rip currents.  Winds are calm and variable around 5 knots from the west to southwest.  Wave heights are around 1 foot.  Winds will continue out of the southwest and increase to around 10 mph with wave heights 2 feet with a 2 foot southeast swell at 8 seconds.  UV Index is Very High at 9/15.  If you are on the beach, watch out for any approaching thunderstorms.

Have a great day!  Tomorrow is very similar to today, with a slightly greater chance of showers, thunderstorms and severe weather.  Winds could be gustier and seas a little elevated, especially in the Midshore to Offshore area which looks to be cautious tomorrow with possible Small Craft Advisories.

Update on Tropical Storm Chantal to come this morning!

Re: Severe Weather Risk for Wednesday

There is a Slight Risk of Severe Weather tomorrow, Wednesday, across most of the state for scattered thunderstorms that could be strong to severe with damaging winds, hail, dangerous lightning and heavy rains.  This Risk area will likely change some by tomorrow morning, but the risk is already being identified today!

Be safe!

Good morning!  A mix of clouds with sun this morning with some scattered showers moving out to sea.  It will continue to be mostly cloudy today and yes, hazy, hot and humid.  Inland temperatures will be in the upper 80's with low to mid 80's along/on the water.  Overnight lows in the low 70's.  Very moist air in place over the area and being pumped in from the south from the southerly flow.  Humidity will continue throughout the day.  There are some organized scattered showers to our west out in Pennsylvania and Maryland moving ENE and then some widespread showers and thunderstorms west of there in Pennsylvania and Maryland.  If they stay together, they will move into the area within the next few hours.  Showers and thunderstorms will eventually change from scattered to more widespread by the afternoon.  The SPC has removed the slight risk and placed the entire state in a generalized risk.  Severe weather is possible with strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, hail, dangerous lightning and heavy rains!  These scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue throughout the day and into the overnight hours.  Be alert for changing weather conditions and popup thunderstorms!

Water conditions are rated good for this morning for all locations, but by this afternoon conditions could become cautious with gusty winds and elevated seas bordering on SCA criteria, especially for Inshore southern waters and Midshore to Offshore waters.  Raritan Bay will have SW winds 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less increasing to 10-15 knots with 1-2 foot seas and then diminishing after midnight to 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have SW winds around 10 knots and seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have SW winds 10-15 knots with seas 2-3 feet diminishing wind to 5-10 knots after midnight.  Inshore ocean waters will have WSW/SW winds 9-14 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 5-6 seconds with conditions increasing in the afternoon with winds 15-19 knots and seas 2-3 feet at 6 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have SW winds 12-19 knots with seas 3-4 feet at 6 seconds.

Surf and beach will be normal to slightly elevated with a Moderate Risk of rip currents today.  Currently winds are variable and calm around 5 mph and surf is normal at around 1 foot.  Conditions will increase this morning with SW winds 10-15 mph and wave heights around 3 feet with a 3 foot south swell at 6 seconds.  UV Index is Very High at 9/15.  Be alert and keep an eye to the sky for any approaching or popup storms.  Lightning can be very dangerous and the only place to seek shelter is a building or vehicle.  If you can hear thunder you can be struck by lightning, so don't wait until it gets closer!

Have a great day and be safe!

Good morning!  Cloudy this morning with a line of showers and thunderstorms along with some scattered showers and thunderstorms moving through the state.  A cold front with an associated Low is west of the area this morning bringing rain ahead of it.  It will push through the area later today.  Showers and thunderstorms will continue today, becoming more widely scattered into tomorrow.  There is a generalized risk of Severe Weather today with the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, dangerous lightning and heavy rains.  High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80's inland with upper 70's to low 80's along/on the water.  Overnight lows in the upper 60's to low 70's.  The air behind this front will not be as hot or humid and should stick around for a few days before the extremely large and strong Bermuda High retrogrades west again and sets up the same scenario with higher temperatures and humidity as well as a southerly flow.

Water conditions vary by location today with most rated good, however extreme Southern Inshore Ocean Waters and Midshore to Offshore Ocean Waters are cautious with Small Craft Advisory Criteria forecast.  Right now, there are no SCA's issued and buoy reports do not indicate conditions at SCA criteria.  Raritan Bay will have SW winds 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less and visibility at 1-3 nm at times.  Barnegat Bay will have SW/SSW winds 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have SW winds 5-10 knots changing to the west and then northwest late tonight with seas 1-2 feet.  Northern Inshore Ocean Waters will have WSW winds 10-15 knots with some higher gusts.  Winds will diminish to around 10 knots tonight.  Seas 3 feet at 6-7 seconds.  Southern Ocean Waters will have WSW winds 12-16 knots with some higher gusts especially for extreme southern areas.  Winds will change to the west for extreme southern areas and all southern areas winds will subside to around 10 knots tonight.  Seas will be 3-4 feet at 6-7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have cautious conditions with SCA criteria with WSW winds 16-21 knots with seas 5 feet at 6 seconds.  Winds will change to the SW at 12-16 knots with seas 5 feet at 7 seconds tonight.  Midshore waters closer to the Mud Hole will have better conditions closer to Inshore Water forecasts.

Surf and beach conditions will be elevated today with a Moderate Risk of rip currents.  Winds are variable out of the west between 5-10 mph with some rougher surf around 1-2 feet.  Winds will increase out of the southwest at 10-15 mph with rough surf and wave heights 3-4 feet with a 3 foot swell at 6-8 seconds.

The low pressure remnants of TS Chantal have moved more northerly and continue moving northwest.  These will most certainly stay east of Florida and despite being unnamed still contain a good amount of tropical moisture and some strong to severe thunderstorms and squalls with gusty winds 40-45 mph.  This system could still impact the East Coast and cause flooding conditions.

Have a great day!  Stay dry and be safe.  The weekend is looking decent right now and I will have a full outlook by later afternoon.

Good morning!  It is an active weather morning already with cloudy skies and showers and thunderstorms over western and southern portions of the state.  These storms will continue to move in today through the overnight.  Showers and thunderstorms will be more widespread to widely scattered today.  Some southwestern counties are under Flash Flood Watches already and if rains continue today other areas could experience flooding conditions.  There is a generalized risk of severe weather today so thunderstorms could become strong to severe.  High temperatures inland will only be in the low 80's with mid to upper 70's along/on the water with overnight lows in the low 70's.  Air will still be humid until the front crosses the area.  The front has stalled out along central portions of NJ, so areas to the north of this are experiencing slightly drier air and when the front crosses for the rest of the state that dry air will makes its way south and east.  Of course, in the midst of rain and showers, the lower humidity will not be so noticeable until tomorrow when the rain clears out and becomes more scattered or isolated.

Water conditions will vary by time and location today with Small Craft Advisories issued for Sandy Hook to Great Egg Inlet from this afternoon through the overnight for winds 20-25 knots and seas 5-6 feet.  SCA's may be extended beyond Great Egg Inlet to Cape May and even Delaware Bay.  Many of the forecast models are not calling for this, but the NWS Marine Forecasters feel that these conditions are probable this afternoon into the evening.  So, just be cautious when using the many marine forecasts tools out there.  Raritan Bay will have E winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots and seas 1-2 feet. Barnegat Bay will have NE winds 10-15 knots with gusts near 20 knots seas 1-2 feet.  Delaware Bay will have E winds 5-10 knots with gusts to 20 knots and sea 1-2 feet with visibility less than 1 nm increasing to 1-3 nm late tonight.  Inshore Ocean waters will have NE/ENE/ESE winds 5-15 knots with northern areas seeing windier conditions and seas 2-3 feet at 7 seconds.  Winds will increase this afternoon from Sandy Hook to Great Bay Inlet to 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots and seas 5-6 feet at 5-6 seconds.  These conditions could drop south into Cape May and Delaware Bay areas.  Midshore to Offshore will have E to NE winds to 10 knots with seas 3-5 feet at 7 seconds increasing to 10-20 knots with seas 4-5 feet at 7 seconds.  These conditions, if they verify, will require Small Craft Advisories as well.  Conditions should subside across all waters late overnight into the morning hours.  It does not look like this will carry over into Saturday day at all.

Surf and beach are good with Low Risk of rip currents.  There is a light, foggy haze right now along the beaches that will clear with any rain or break in the clouds for the sun to burn off, but until then it will hang around. Winds are calm and variable from the E/NE around 5 mph and wave heights around 1-2 feet.  Surf looks a little rough this morning being driven by the easterly winds.  Winds will increase from the NE today to 10-15 mph with wave heights 3 feet with a 3 foot swell at 6-7 seconds.  Surf could get rough at times being driven in by the northeast winds.  UV Index is Moderate at 4/15.  Anyone venturing to the beach, please be alert for any thunderstorms moving in.

Have a great day!  Tough out this dreary day, dodge the rain and thunderstorms and tomorrow looks to be better!
