9/30 Funkymunky (via The Princess) report
« on: September 30, 2007, 06:31:09 PM »
Headed out with pops on his boat today in search of blues in choppy weather.

Trolled off of SI area to 11a and picked up 4 to 10-11lbs. Failr slow.

Worked our way over towards Great Kills area and started to jig.

Hooked up right away with cocktails of about 2-3lbs.

30z Croc knock offs dropped to the bottom, then reeled up REAL fast.

Read fish down deep, fish hit 2/3 the way up 5hrug

Picked up 20-25more fish, dropped just as many.

Loaded up the fish well for some fish to bring for people at work.

Went home with an easy 15lbs of fillets.

Started out slow, ended pretty good.

Good catch Mboy.  The blues like to follow the jig for a while.  They will chase it right to the boat and when they think it is getting away they will jump on it.  Stupid creatures.  TT^

Yep. No love jigging off the botom, but when I reeled up BAM.

Saw some chasing them up too.

Forgot how much I liked jigging on very light tackle :)

Beat trolling by a long shot!

That makes 2 of us bucktail, but my pops LOVES to troll.

Wasn't easy in the 2-3' rolling chop in the bay yesterday.

Forgot to mention the monster that bit off a BIG stretch 15 (or a 20, forgot which) on the troll.

Got a big hit, drag sing, then nothing. Pops reeled in and nothing left buy 40lb mono leader.

That lure was at least 8" long, so whatever ate it, most likely was big enough to swallow the whole thing.

One of the big biys yesterday had that lures twin deep inside it too. The back trebles pretty much gut hooked it.

Funny, we lost a ton of the smaller ones when jigging.

trolling, we could barely get the fish off of the hooks they were hooked so well. Jigging, dropped a ton right at the boat and this was with pressure on the line.

Sounds like fun on a tough day.... t^

I'm not usually a big fan of trolling but man is it effective for stripers in the Rip.
