4 Aug Inshore BFT,,,, Report up
« on: August 04, 2013, 03:01:15 PM »
Ran to Brick saturday to pick up a new transducer, then to the slip and had the boat pulled out to install it. Later that evening decided to give it a test run.

Pulled out of the slip at 0430 in the dark, spot lighted through DCC with out issue, breaking the inlet before the sun started to peek out.

Headed for the resor area to find no life or marks and pushed SE from there towards the triple wreck area.

Noticed some lumps coming up, so decided to slow down and put the spread out short of our destination,,,,,

Outriggers assembled and in place,, check

Way back green machine daisy chain sent on back,, check

Spreaders bars to run off the outriggers,,,, Umm, spreader bars??   smk They're in the truck,,,  rgmn

Ok, today we're gonna run four daisy chains and a cedar plug.

Trolling along what seemed like a desert, right on by the corvallis wreck, still heading SE.

Seen a lump I had marked from the computer at home and swung on over it,,,  cfzd Holy Smokes thats alot of bait,, lump was holding solid bait from 25-50' down.

Trolled that thing from every direction possible and then some, if tuna's where there they just wouldn't come up for my daisy spread. I say "if" because it was to thick to mark any actual fish in the mix.

Decided to try and jig it up. Stepped off the wheel having SeaChelle take over the controls while I brought the spread in. Didn't even make it to the rear of the boat and the way back starts to scream.

I holler for SeaChelle to grab the rod and start reeling this bad boy in while I clear the lines, keeping the boat in gear.

Made short work of it and had it over the rail in about five minutes.

Woot,, Tuna in the boat!,, Nice 38"er,, and he did not like the nice icy saltwater bath I had prepared for him.

Packed the trolling gear away and continued to work the bait with jigs, after a half hour we decided to pull the plug and make our way back in as we knew it was gonna be a slow ride in with the conditions.

Uneventful bumpy ride back in through a confused sea. Stopped at the mahi buoy to find no one home again. After the buoy the sea's started to calm down and I was able to pull the throttle back a wee bit more, getting back into the slip at 1330.

New transducer worked awesome as long as you didn't look at the water temp gauge,,, that sensor part was borked out of the box. Screw it,, just gotta last long enough till I get a new garmin set up in about a month.

Even without all your equipment you were able to improvise and put out a winning spread.

Great job! t^

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
