Boat gas usage

I'm looking to buy a 20' class center console. One boat I am looking at only has a 60 gallon fuel tank. I was wondering how much fuel you usually use in a day fishing? If I was runing 20 miles trolling for 10 hrs and running back. The boat has a 4 stroke 150 hp

Your average usage for a boat that size is from five to ten gallons an hour at cruise speed so you would have plenty of fuel for the run your talking about. Twenty miles you can do under an hour and your trolling usage should be three to five gallons an hour.

Welcome to the site. I am terrible with math and miles to gallons but I know that someone on here, if not a few, will be able to help you no doubt!!! I have a smaller boat, 18.5 with a 115 yamaha that when the tank is full I can go from Sea Warren to the Shrewsburt Rocks and back with no problems for what that is worth  .

Thank you, I did the math I was mostly just wondering how the numbers come out in real life. Also how much of a buffer do you leave when fishing? If you have a 60 gallon take do you plan to only use 50 gallons or anything like that.

I think its something like 1/3 out 1/3 back 1/3 reserve. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

You can easily install a fuel flow meter on that boat.  Lowrance, FloScan are good choices.  I have one the fit in the 2 1/8" hole that my fuel gauge occupied.  They are very accurate.

I use between 500-800 gallons / season, fishing inshore/nearshore, twice a week (if I am lucky,) from April to November with an old 225hp carb'd 2stroke O/B on a 24 Grady.

100 gallon tank.

I figure about $3500/yr adding in the 2stroke oil.

Right in my pocket this year tho.

I have a 25' Parker with a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke.
I run to the mud hole, 20-25 miles, troll for hours, stop on the Shark River reef and run back. All on under 35 gallons of fuel.

You should have no problem with what you want to do.

I have a newer Yamaha 150 on a 215 triumph that will use about 0.5-0.7gph at trolling speed.7gph at 4200rpm. once you throttle up from there is gets crazy. At 5200rpm she will consume over 12-13gph. at 5900rpm   its about 16gph,(never pushed it that far)  Sea state makes a huge difference also. 2-3' is the norm for these numbers anything bigger I definitely use more gas.

You will get 3mpg in shore with a light load
And 2 to 2.5 loaded down
