Most productive Bunker Spoon areas
« on: September 30, 2007, 10:06:15 PM »
During the fall Bass run, what areas seem to produce best for trolling bunker spoons. Close to shore or further out in deeper water around structure, or is it just hit and miss.  ???

If you are fishing north, go to the Shrewsbury Rocks and troll from buoy to buoy.  You can bet that you will not be alone.

So Structure and such is the best place?  Lumps ETC?

I want to head out of LEI and troll bunker spoons.

Where should I be.  close to shore?

Any Pics of some of your Favorite Bunker Spoons?

Close to shore first thing in the morning. As the sun goes up, the stripers go down.  Deeper water as the day goes on, then back to the shallow toward dusk.

And yes, structure, structure, structure.

Trolling over the Shrewsbury Rocks is always productive, but also trolling along the beach, close to the beach...  Keep in mind how many surf fisherman catch really nice stripers.  NOW, troll the beaches up and down the coast double to triple the distance a surf caster can cast.  During that troll, you will also troll over clam and mussel beds, and also a TON of fall baitfish. If your on the rocks, don't troll too deep or the rocks will own your expensive bunker spoons.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

The Rocks are good as is Chappel Hill Channel, West Bank Light area, The Reach (all Raritan Bay areas).
Anywhere where you would fish any other method for catching stripers using Bunker as bait.

If the "spots" aren't working to your liking, working the huge pods of bait that are prevalent throughout the fall in our area, typically a bit later in the day with bunker spoons, can produce fish as well.

Personally, I've always seemed to catch more (not bigger) bass pulling rigs (shad or umbrella) in the fall and had better success with spoons in the spring.

All the above named spots are proven areas for fall striper action.
