Well We hit the beach (Matt and Steffen and myself), but even though there were plenty of buggies out not to many were catching a thing. Looks like most were using artificial lures ranging from metal to metal lipped swimmers and everything in between.
We set up not far from the corner at Gillkins and began to throw clams and because there was no bunker in any of the shops we bought large mullet and cut them up into chunks. As night came close the first fish was on. Doggie nice size and a good fight on the small pole (7-1/2"). From that point on we were into them almost all night.
One thing I was surprised to be catching was a number of Atlantic Hake. They were all small but it kept the night interesting. So between the dog fish, one skate and a number of Hake the guys were satisfied just to be catching.
It looks like the bass will be down maybe in about another week or so. We will be out there waiting for them and this year it looks like; so will be hordes of other guys vying for the same spot.
I will be out there during the week marking some new spots to fish once the water begins to decide not to look like a lake. My Garmin GPS will be working over time inputting new data. Especially this year. I have noticed that all the access roads are not easily seen at night because of the dune erosion. So I have marked them as well.
It should be fun this year as there are plenty of new fishermen wanting to get out and try their luck at this new fishing for Bass. At least I have someone that can fill up my tires for me after a long cold night on the beach.
Happy Catching
Paul
