Had over 30 Tog with 10-15 being keeper size.  Kept our Limit of 3 plus a few Seabass. It has started, but will we have any left come Nov. 15. Lets see.

The New York boats have it over us right now.  Their season has opened already.  We have to wait another month.  The tog spots could be picked clean by then.   

Where did you fish?  That's a nice catch.

NJ gets to choose it's regs.  Technically, NJ's tog season is open YEAR round.  Yeah, only a limit of 1, but it's still open.

NY closes it's season completely for a portion of the year.  Look at their other regs that are much, much more stingent than NJ's and quite a few NJ party, charter and private boats fish NY waters and follow NJ regs...

Sad as the NJ "opener" used to coincide with my birthday.  It blows, but it's not NY's fault.

Also, quite a few of the NY boats are fishing further than 3 miles off NJ, some on Rockaway reef, some in the NY channels.  Some do fish NJ water under NY regs...they'll play until they have to pay just like NJ boats in NY waters.

Oh, and last few reports and even trips I made, they ain't even averaging 1 keeper per person onboard.

Was out sunday on a NY party boat and 95% of the 60+ fares wanted seabass/porgies.  Made some tog drops but most did not have the patience to wait and get a bite going.  Personally only managed one keeper tog and some seabass.  MAYBE a total of a dozen keeper blackfish onboard at the end of the day.

Did see a NJ boat out there and a lot more than one keeper per person tog came up and not back over 

Right now it seems the small pieces are where they're at.  Some good wind and temp drops should have them moving about and allow them to really get their feedbags on.

Thanks for sharing that info Gottog.  I can't wait till the bite starts with the tog.  One of my favs to fish for because they are not so easy a fish to catch.

I will say that the tog are very fiesty when hooked.  Could be that's due to the water still being warm

Last couple of times out, even the small toy-togs put up a good account for themselves.  More so than usual that is.

Oh, believe it or not, majority that were caught sunday came on clams over greenies and fiddlers.  Did roll a nice one on a dead calico crab though

Read/received a few other reports and atleast 3 other NY Bight area NY partyboats did just as poorly with blackfish this sunday.  Some had better porgy life, others slightly better with seabass, and a few had zero keepers sized blackfish

Obvious you are serious Togger Gottog, and know your stuff. I have noticed the Last few years that by the time the bite should be very good late Nov, early Dec, many of the pieces I fish(in my boat) have less life than before. Probably too much pressure.

 can this be what everyone was going for in the canal behind point pleasant? rolled through there sunday and the fence rows where pretty darn near packed. seen fish being pulled over the rail, but could not make out if they where sea bass or tog.

More than likely tog as I know the bite is on in the canal.

I don't think sea bass are taken over the rail at the canal.  For as long as I can remember, it's always been a tog hot spot.

There are seabass there, but most are shorts.

Saw a few come up from a pier way in the back of Raritan Bay eve.  Probably about 9" or so.

Might have to hit the canal myself this weekend
